📄 The Comité Français de l’Emballage Papier Carton (COFEPAC), which brings together all the organisations in the paper and cardboard packaging industry, today issued a press release in response to the programme ‘Sur le front’ broadcast last night on France 5.
In COFEPAC’s view, the documentary entitled ‘Cartons, paper bags: la fausse bonne idée?’ presents a biased view and contains several errors. 📦 🎥

COFEPAC regrets that the programme simplistically presents reuse or ‘no-packaging’ as the only valid environmental solutions, while failing to mention the environmental benefits of recycling and responsible production of paper and cardboard packaging. ♻️

Institutional and political visit

Vendredi 6 septembre, nous avons eu l’honneur d’accueillir plusieurs personnalités politiques et institutionnelles pour une visite de notre usine. 🏭

Étaient présents, accompagnés par Christophe Lloret Linares, Directeur Général :
• Mme Emilie Bonnivard, Députée de la 3e circonscription de la Savoie ;
• Mme Béatrice Santais, Présidente de la Communauté de communes Cœur de Savoie;
• M. David ATES, Maire de Valgelon-La Rochette ;
• M. Eric Artaud, Directeur du Pôle Développement Économique de la Communauté de Communes Cœur de Savoie ;
• M. Stéphane Duparc, Vice-président en charge du développement économique et de l’emploi – Communauté de Communes Cœur de Savoie ;
• M. Philippe GARZON, Directeur de l’Antenne Savoie chez Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Entreprises – Responsable régional du pilier Développement Économique ;
• Mme Christel Jacquet, Chargée de mission Innovation – Enseignement Supérieur.

Cette visite a permis d’aborder les enjeux clés de notre secteur et, à travers des échanges enrichissants, de réfléchir ensemble à l’avenir de notre usine. 🤝

🧐 Do you recognise the man in the long beige coat in the photo?

It’s Michel Barnier, now Prime Minister of France!

A little history: on 2 April 1984, management announced the closure of the La Rochette plant following financial bankruptcy. In response, the trade unions (CGT, FO, CGC), their elected representatives and members quickly mobilised to form an inter-union group.

At the time, Michel Barnier was Member of Parliament for the 2nd constituency of Savoie (Albertville – Tarentaise) and President of the Savoie General Council since 1982. He supported and facilitated contacts for the takeover of the plant. He also took part in the demonstration organised in La Rochette under the slogan ‘La Rochette will live’, which brought together elected representatives from all political parties, collaborators, merchants, artisans and local residents in a collective action.

Thanks to this common mobilisation and to the actions taken by the intersyndicale, the elected representatives and Maître Rebut, the court-appointed administrator, the Cascades group took over the management of the factory on 1 May 1985.

Participation of La Rochette Cartonboard in the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of France

On Saturday 24 August, La Rochette Cartonboard was invited to take part in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Valgelon-La Rochette, organised by the Souvenir Français. The event was marked in particular by the testimony of Robert Franck, former manager of the Cartonnerie. His account highlighted the role played by our company and its employees in the Resistance, contributing to the liberation of France during the Second World War.

The memories evoked by Robert Franck underline the extent to which the history of our company is intimately linked to the economic and social context and the region. It is this history that continues to shape our identity and development today.

🌍🌱 A new stage in our energy transition

Good news! La Rochette Cartonboard SAS, in collaboration with the company Opale, has obtained permission from the Valgelon-La Rochette municipality to build a photovoltaic park 🌞 close to the factory.

This ambitious project is fully in line with our commitment to the energy transition.

With an installed capacity of 1 MWp, representing an output of around 1.28 GWh/year, this park will enable us to reduce our carbon footprint by more than 57 tonnes of CO2 every year 🌳 (source: RTE – period from 2010 to 2023 (45g CO2 equivalent/kWh).

We look forward to seeing this project come to reality between the end of 2024 and the first half of 2025.
