The mill of La Rochette was one of the first French mills to be equipped with a biomass boiler. It allows us to produce steam needed for the process and produce electricity based on renewable energy.

Since 2023, the turbine installed on our site has been a counter-pressure turbine, with steam passing through the turbine and expanding as it passes through the various stages. This type of model is used to regulate the pressure at the turbine outlet. The expansion is converted into mechanical and then electrical energy by the alternator.
The turbine and the self-generation of electricity have another function: to make part of the plant insulated during storms. The plant has a great deal of electrical equipment, and a shutdown due to tripping causes a considerable loss of time. That’s why, when there’s a storm warning, we turn off the turbo, which means disconnecting part of the plant from the electrical network, known as the priority network (the boiler, compressors, machine 3 and part of the crushing department). In the event of a power cut, this equipment will remain in operation and continue to produce cardboard.
