It’s Michel Barnier, now Prime Minister of France!

A little history: on 2 April 1984, management announced the closure of the La Rochette plant following financial bankruptcy. In response, the trade unions (CGT, FO, CGC), their elected representatives and members quickly mobilised to form an inter-union group.

At the time, Michel Barnier was Member of Parliament for the 2nd constituency of Savoie (Albertville – Tarentaise) and President of the Savoie General Council since 1982. He supported and facilitated contacts for the takeover of the plant. He also took part in the demonstration organised in La Rochette under the slogan โ€˜La Rochette will liveโ€™, which brought together elected representatives from all political parties, collaborators, merchants, artisans and local residents in a collective action.

Thanks to this common mobilisation and to the actions taken by the intersyndicale, the elected representatives and Maรฎtre Rebut, the court-appointed administrator, the Cascades group took over the management of the factory on 1 May 1985.

On Saturday 24 August, La Rochette Cartonboard was invited to take part in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Valgelon-La Rochette, organised by the Souvenir Franรงais. The event was marked in particular by the testimony of Robert Franck, former manager of the Cartonnerie. His account highlighted the role played by our company and its employees in the Resistance, contributing to the liberation of France during the Second World War.

The memories evoked by Robert Franck underline the extent to which the history of our company is intimately linked to the economic and social context and the region. It is this history that continues to shape our identity and development today.

Good news! La Rochette Cartonboard SAS, in collaboration with the company Opale, has obtained permission from the Valgelon-La Rochette municipality to build a photovoltaic park ๐ŸŒž close to the factory.

This ambitious project is fully in line with our commitment to the energy transition.

With an installed capacity of 1 MWp, representing an output of around 1.28 GWh/year, this park will enable us to reduce our carbon footprint by more than 57 tonnes of CO2 every year ๐ŸŒณ (source: RTE – period from 2010 to 2023 (45g CO2 equivalent/kWh).

We look forward to seeing this project come to reality between the end of 2024 and the first half of 2025.

Stay connected to follow its progress!

One of the poem trees from the “Tuesdays in Poetry” project run by the Fabrice Melquiot media library in Valgelon-La Rochette has been installed on our site, with the theme of the industrial world. It will remain in place throughout the summer.

This project is the fruit of the media library’s work since 2017. These meetings brought together members with a passion for poetry, each presenting and discussing poems.

Over time, these poems were put into images by the media library team and then archived until they could be used. This has now been done.

As a company, we felt it was essential to support and promote local culture and art, which are also evident in the industrial world!

๐Ÿ”ตโšช๐Ÿ”ด Did you know?

In July, you discovered the manufacture of our chemical paste, essential to the structure of our cartonboard. Today, we’re showing you how our coating sauce is made! ๐Ÿญ

The coating sauce, produced in our kitchens, adds whiteness and printability properties to our cartonboard. The deposit of this sauce is directly integrated into the machine.

Two layers are required:
โ€ข A pre-coat to smooth and opacify the substrate
โ€ข A top coat for perfect whiteness and a beautiful surface finish.

The future of the forest is crucial, which is why sustainable and responsible forest management is one of our priorities. We are committed to promoting practices that respect the environment, guaranteeing the sustainability of forest resources for future generations and ensuring that our virgin fibre-based board is produced in a sustainable, responsible way that is always Made In France. ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒฒ

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the public forest (ONF, COFOR) and private forest (Coforet), as well as representatives from FSC France. Local players in the forestry and wood industry, such as Scierie de Savoie Lapierre et Martin, Scierie Eymard and ForTea, were also present.

During the day, we organised a meeting on the development of forest certification in the Auvergne-Rhรดne-Alpes region, in response to growing demand from our customers. There was also a tour of the factory. ๐Ÿญ

Thank you all for your participation!

Producing cardboard is a complex process that requires specific know-how and expertise. ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿ’ก

This month we start with the composition of our board, made up of different layers: bleached and unbleached mechanical pulp, chemical pulp and a specific coating depending on the product and its use. ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ”

All these elements are manufactured in our different workshops in La Rochette, as we are an integrated factory.

On Saturday 8 June, we organised a friendly country-style meal for our employees at Lac Saint Clair in La Rochette / Dรฉtrier.

This event was much more than just a meal, it was an opportunity to strengthen ties, share moments of conviviality and celebrate our corporate values: commitment, respect and team spirit.

The programme included

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ A barbecue with local produce

๐ŸŽ‰ A lottery with prizes to be won: a connected speaker, gift vouchers (restaurants, local shops) and gift boxes!

โœจ A surprise show: the magician Robin Geyer, who captivated our employees with his interactive and humorous close-up.

Thank you to all our employees for their participation and for helping to make this a convivial moment!
